Pop Eater: Mad Men Party rules the Globes
The hottest party at the Golden Globes was AMC’s ‘Mad Men’ private viewing party, but not because the best show on TV had just won its third consecutive Golden Globe. It was the place to be because every star wanted to get in to score a job on the show.
“It’s the hottest show on TV. What actor wouldn’t want to be in that cast?” said one A-list actor who had skipped the Weinstein party to try his luck meeting ‘Mad Men’ creator Matthew Weiner. And although Jeremy Piven was seen leaving with Betty Draper (Miss January Jones), sources tell me he would have rather left with Matt Weiner!
P.S.: Don Draper’s drink of choice was not an Old Fashioned. Jon Hamm was seen with a glass of celebratory champagne!
The Daily Beast: The party to be at, presuming you weren’t CAA talent (the agency had their own no-press bash at the Sunset Tower, at which winners like Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock were celebrating) was clearly the HBO fete, which was held poolside at Circa 55, the restaurant in the pool area of the Beverly Hilton.(…) Jon Hamm came too, despite that his show Mad Men is broadcast on AMC. He managed to cut the line, which was lucky, because even people with invites waited for as long as 45 minutes to gain admittance, after the fire marshals came and threatened to close the thing down.
EW: Number of Questions about Jon Hamm’s New Beard: Three. One reporter asked Hamm, “What’s with pulling the Brad Pitt?” Hamm’s response: “I’m not sure what ‘pulling the Brad Pitt’ means. That could be very, very filthy.” And how is it affecting his love life? “Amazingly.”
LA Times: 7:16 p.m.: I’ve been obsessed with Jon Hamm and his beard all week. Tonight, I finally got to the bottom of this hairy situation. The scruff is for his flick “The Town,” directed by Ben Affleck and costarring Blake Lively. I just ran into a pal close to the movie, and while principal photography has wrapped, Hamm is keeping the beard at request of filmmakers — possibly for additional filming, marketing shots or long-lead press.
7 p.m.: Jon Hamm has spent much of the show in the bar/smoke lounge. Girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt, who has a part in “24″ this year, asked him: “You want another Maker’s Mark, baby?” A neighbor asked her, “So, you’re still back here?” “Drinking,” she said. “It’s what you do here. We’re celebrating just like everyone else.” Then Hamm knocked me over onto the floor — and apologized profusely.
Access Hollywood: 6:17 PM — Jon Hamm shares a mutual admiration moment with John Lithgow right in front of me. The two clearly have never met but are big fans of each other.
E Online: Jon Hamm looks exactly like this. Really, truly, it’s a show-stopper of a beard. The explanation for it, however, is ordinary. “I just got very tired of shaving,” he says, “and this is the result”.
BusinessWorld Online: In the other major TV award, cable network AMC’s Mad Men — which shines a lens on men and women working in a Madison Avenue advertising agency — won the Golden Globe for best TV drama, for the third straight year.
“I can’t believe we have gotten to do this three times,” said star Jon Hamm. “We all really responded to the pilot and the idea of this showing and finding a home on AMC was a big question for us.
LA Times Blogs: Meanwhile, atop the hotel, Nick Cannon hosted the Globes’ official after-party, presented by NBC Universal, and drop-bys included Jon Hamm and partner Jennifer Westfeldt. Hamm’s gal was super chummy with “30 Rock” creator and star Tina Fey, roaming the party together, Champagne in hand.
