Jon Hamm – The Distinguished Gentleman

American Way

FIVE YEARS AGO, NO ONE WOULD HAVE paid Jon Hamm any mind when he walked into this cozy Los Angeles–area breakfast joint. Sure, women may have looked twice; face it, the guy is stop-the-spoon-on-the-way-to-your-mouth handsome — six feet tall, trim, sporting a five-o’clock shadow at 9 a.m. and a mop of black hair that grazes his forehead just so. Men may have sat up straighter in their seats so as not to be (too) outdone by the charismatic stranger. But their attention would just as quickly have been diverted when the next good-looking Hollywood wannabe came through the door.

Today, though, it’s a different story. When Hamm, dressed in dark jeans and a blue T-shirt layered under a gray hoodie and navy jacket, slips quietly into this Los Feliz eatery — just minutes from the home he shares with his longtime girlfriend, actress Jennifer Westfeldt, in the LA neighborhood — conversations stop short and are replaced with hushed murmuring. Eyes dart in his direction, and knowing smirks spread across faces. The veteran waitstaff isn’t fazed, as Hamm is a regular here, but the waitress in training can’t help but stare.

Because today, Jon Hamm isn’t just anybody. Today, he’s Jon Hamm: star of Mad Men and this month’s new film The Town; Golden Globe winner; two-time host of Saturday Night Live; voice of Mercedes-Benz; one of People magazine’s sexiest men alive and a GQ Man of the Year; face of a network; unwitting fashion icon; and all-around Most Wanted Man in Hollywood.

How a band of Hollywood rejects created the smartest and most seductive show on TV

In the opening scene of the new season of Mad Men, an interviewer asks Draper, “Who is Don Draper?” Rather than confess the truth — that he’s a flimflam man who fabricated his whole identity from a dead Korean War officer and built his entire life on a lie en route to a Madison Avenue advertising career — Draper merely takes a drag on his cigarette. “I’m from the Midwest,” he says. “We were taught it’s not polite to talk about yourself.”

More Emmy videos

Here’s a nice little news tidbit on the Emmy night from E! Online:

AMC after-party

The Mad Men table was also the place to be inside the convention center. Christina Hendricks, a very happy looking Elisabeth Moss, and Jon Hamm all sat together laughing most of the night away.

Since Mad Men won for outstanding drama series, they were some of the last to arrive and Jon seemed to have his priorities straight.

“Right when Jon walked in people wanted pictures with him. He said ‘One second!’, ran up to longtime girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt and gave her a huge kiss, then went back and took pictures with whoever asked.”

Ugh, that man might be the closest thing to perfect we have in Hollywood.

And 2 more Emmy videos.

Jon and Jennifer to shoot ‘Friends With Kids’

Friends with Kids

Jon Hamm didn’t win his Emmy Award last night for Best Actor. It doesn’t matter. With only one episode of the show left to shoot this season, Hamm is looking forward not back.

At the Governor’s Ball last night, Jon and his long time girlfriend Jennifer Westfedlt told me they’re getting to shoot a new film which she will film based on her own script.

“Friends with Kids” was already previewed on August 1st in a script reading at a theater festival. Now Jon and Jennifer say they’re ready to roll, and are starting to pull together what’s necessary to make “Friends” before “Mad Men” starts again.

Westfeldt is an accomplished writer and director, of course. Her “Kissing Jessica Stein” is still considered one of the great indie films of all time. Jon Hamm had a walk on in the 2001 production. Now he’ll be the star! The couple also said they’re hopeful Anne Hathaway and Kristen Wiig will be some of the other “Friends with Kids.”

Hamm is well on track to leave “Mad Men” and become a move star when the TV show’s run is up. His management and instincts keep pointing him in the right directions. Not only is he doing a lot of comedy– as in “Saturday Night Live” and on last night’s Emmy show with Betty White–but also on “30 Rock” where he’s been nominated for an Emmy. When “Mad Men” is over, Hamm will not be typecast as Don Draper. His next big digression is a big role in Ben Affleck’s “The Town,” which gets a release in a few weeks.

‘Mad Men’ Three-peat at Emmys

Emmys

Jon may have not win tonight but all the dancing and singing totally made the night! And congratulation to ‘Mad Men’ who won three years in a row for Best Drama!

From LA Times:

Yet another reason for those “Mad Men” to turn those frowns upside down: a third Emmy win in the drama category.

“I’m overwhelmed,” said series creator and executive producer Matt Weiner backstage. “We worked very hard. It’s an honor to be nominated, and I can’t believe we won.”

Jon Hamm echoed those sentiments with a little more charm — surely channeling his inner Don Draper.

“It was completely unexpected,” he said. “The quality of the nominees this season, more than ever, has been phenomenal. We are humbled and thankful.”

I added a lot of photos from the night and will add more later!

Random Quote

“He’s the only person who really had this great mix of empathy and masculinity and intelligence. Both Don and Jon have an inner life. So long as you have that kind of depth in a human being, people will root for him…. Jon walked out of the room and I said, ‘That guy has lived.’”
