It might be hard enough to get used to dapper Jon Hamm as an ogre in “Shrek Forever After”– green and hairless.
But the DVD for the film will require an even bigger adjustment. Try Jon Hamm green, hairless and singing Christmas carols.
Hamm was very game to take part in filming the DVD extras for the movie, according to Walt Dohrn, Dreamworks animator and the voice of Rumpelstiltskin. Because the DVD will come out around Christmas, these extras include ogre versions of your favorite Christmas carol.
Hamm was apparently a very enthusiastic ogre singer.
“He belted out the most hilarious Christmas song I had ever heard,” Dohrn tells PopcornBiz. “It was the old playground version of ‘Jingle Bells’ by way of ogres. The gross things that ogres eat proudly.”
“Jon was singing with gusto out of the side of his mouth.”
Dohrn says he was pleased he was not in the booth with Hamm “so I could laugh as hard as I wanted to.”
Out of all the cast of comedians in “Shrek,” Dohrn says he was the most surprised by Hamm’s hilarity. “I know he’s on ’30 Rock’ but you just think of him as this serious ‘Mad Men’ character.”
Director Mike Mitchell says he too was “shocked to see what a great sense of humor Jon has.”
“And he’s a great singer,” says Mitchell. “He’s multi-talented!”
